2010 Holiday Events

The Austerlitz Historical Society’s Annual Holiday sing featuring favorite holiday songs will be held at the Spencertown Academy on Sunday, December 5. The event will include activities and entertainment for all ages.

Families with children won’t want to miss the live performance of “A Winter Sunday Afternoon in Austerlitz, 1830 to 1850.” Beginning at 1 pm, the show dramatizes how family life has changed in 150 years. It will be an interactive experience, with children in the audience invited to join the actors in various parlor games and singing.

At 2 o’clock, everyone will gather around the grand piano in the second floor auditorium to sing or just enjoy listening to traditional holiday carols, including Hanukkah songs. Singers will be accompanied by Pat O’Shea on the piano and Stephanie Tyski on the violin. The program will also include a reading of a Christmas story.

Refreshments, including a variety of holiday cookies and other treats, cider and coffee, will follow. Admission to both events is free and open to the public

Participants will also be invited to get a head start on their shopping by visiting the Spencertown Academy’s Handmade Holiday Gift Shop in the main floor galleries. Specialty items created by more than 30 local artisans will be available. These range from ceramics to hand-painted scarves, from jewelry to homemade chutney, from children’s toys to quilted handbags. New this year, an assortment of floral centerpieces and ornamental greens for holiday decorating will be for sale. Contact the Society at 518-392-0062 for more information.
