Special attention will be paid to individuals serving in New York as well as the impact of the Philipsburg Proclamation\, which was signed at Philipse Manor Hall in 1779. \nSpeakers are:\nSarah Wassberg Johnson is the programs and education manager at Philipse Manor Hall State Historic site in Yonkers\, NY. She has a master’s in public history from the University at Albany and has been working in history museums since 2007. She started her research into Black loyalists and patriots in 2023 and hasn’t stopped since. \nMatt Thorenz\, a historian who specializes In the American Revolutionary period and writes about the Black experience in the Continental Army since 2015. He helped form a Revolutionary War reenactment group of the 7th Albany militia\, and later\, units of the Continental First New York Regiment. \nSeveral reproduction flintlock firearms will be demonstrated along with the necessary accouterments and other items needed to operate these weapons. Drawing on Millay’s diaries\, letters\, photographs taken at Steepletop during her life there\, and some memories of Austerlitz residents\, Edna St. Vincent Millay Society Literary Officer Krystyna Poray Goddu and AHS board member Tim Hawley will evoke the time when America’s best-loved poet and her husband\, Eugen Boissevain\, were familiar faces to Austerlitz residents.\n \nGoddu\, author of the 2016 biography A Girl Called Vincent: The Life of Poet Edna St. Vincent Millay\, will discuss Millay’s childhood in Maine\, her years at Vassar College and in Greenwich Village\, and her ground-breaking poetry.
